History of the Isle of Wight Gundog Club
The Isle of Wight Gundog Club was founded on the 28th February 1979 by Mrs Enid Minter, Mrs Jan Drake and Mr Gray.
In December 1979 The Kennel Club gave approval for the registration of the Isle of Wight Gundog Club.
From the outset Mrs Minter held ring-craft classes for those who showed their dogs, also trainers were appointed for obedience and working training.
- In 1985 the club held its first Novice Test which was won by Margaret Woods.
- In 1988 the Club held its first Open Show.
- In 1992 the club held its first Field Trial
By this time the club was also holding two working tests as well as a scurry, an open show and a limited show each year.
The Club continued to grow and there were great achievements by members in both working and show events.
Many Club events have taken place in the past which involved both show and working enthusiasts. Fun days, training days, barbecues, shows, trials, working tests and matches. Many of these activities continue today.
