2010 Newsletter

Dear Members

2009 was a good year for the club we had two very successful Open Shows, which were well supported but we could always do with more entries. We held an inter-club match with the IW Canine Association in October, where although the IWCA took Best in Match, the IWGDC showed their socks off taking the Reserve. We have also continued to offer weekly Show training plus a monthly match culminating in the Match of the year. Many thanks to Margaret Woods and the show committee for these well run events, and to every judge, trainer and helper throughout the year.

We have also held 3 days of two working tests and two field trials plus working training. Many thanks to Terry Souter for his training expertise and working test setting. Thanks also to Wendy Perera and the working committee plus all our helpers for all their support in putting on these events. Terry also managed to assemble a team of gun’s who kindly allowed us to run a trial around their day. Thank you and thanks to James Kingswell and Gatcombe Shoot for once again hosting a trial for us. We have a very supportive group of landowners who also generously allow us to use their land to train and run our competitions thanks to you all.

In May we held a Fun Day the day after I broke my ankle so needless to say I was not there, however everyone rallied round thanks to James and by all accounts it was a very good day.

Our membership has continued to grow and thankfully our finances are in pretty good shape. We have a very good Executive Committee who give up their time so readily for the club not to mention tea, coffee, cake and biscuits. Thank you to everyone who helps out as we have a club to be proud of and somehow we always pull it off.

This sport of ours is amazing as amongst the judges we have had in the past two years have been Heather Bradley club member (who judged a trial for us) and John Stubbs (who judged a working test for us) who at the end of 2009 judged the Retriever Championship. It is a small world, one day you are exercising your dogs next you are rubbing shoulders with the best in the country, it doesn’t happen in motor racing.

2010 is well underway and I wish you all enjoyment with your dogs and hope to see you at one of our many and varied events. You can find out about all our events for 2010 here.
